We've spent the week figuring out what it means to survive on as little sleep as possible, distinguishing between smiles and gas, learning the difference between neh and eh (thanks Oprah) and soaking up what it means to be parents.
More than anything else we've learned the meaning of surrender. It has quickly become clear that we are, in so many ways, powerless to answer her every need; we can't raise this little girl on our own. And as much as we would like to provide for her perfectly, we've quickly come to realize that only God can do that. Even in the birth of our new baby girl, we are still learning to follow where Jesus leads...and that means surrender. It means surrendering to his goodness, grace and His power. It's humbling to realize that you are powerless and He is all powerful.

She is SO BEAUTIFUL you guys. We are so happy for you! We have been enjoying lots of sleep as Sydney has decided to be "typical" and start to "consolidate" her sleep at 6-7 weeks. Huzzah! Hang in there! As we tell so many, Sydney is treating us FAR better than we deserve. Love to you ALL!

Totally "smile!" The 'gas' idea is way too 'western, modern, we are better, smarter and more evolved than they,' to totally smiling! Love ya all.

Brian & Erin, I came across your blog and was in for a surprise... Here we had been trying to get ahold of you to tell you about our new baby girl, Miriam, born Jan. 30th and I find out the two of you were getting ready for your own little girl! How exciting! You should let Pastor Schultz & everyone there in on the big news. Congratulations!
